Bedroom to recording booth: Indie singer Meera Desai on her workspaces

Having grown up in New York and spent 21 years of her life there, Meera Desai moved to Ahmedabad to study Hindustani classical music. Desai’s debut EP - I’ve Never Been Happier to Be Lost - was released in 2019 and inspired by this life-changing move. Desai's silky vocals are bound to immerse you in a sound-world of interesting harmonies and she recently toured with Heat Sink, a progressive rock band. Desai talks about her love of harmony, making a music video in her room and how ‘Life of Pi’ inspired one of her songs.

Ministhy S.'s living room is for linguistic labours of love

Growing up in Kerala, Ministhy S. was surrounded by a culture of translation. She remembers reading Ashapurna Devi’s Bengali novels, V.S. Khandekar’s Marathi books, and Russian classics, all in Malayalam. The IAS officer based in Uttar Pradesh first started dabbling in translation in 2014, translating American poet Daniel Ladinsky’s work into Malayalam. Her English translation of V.J. James’ Malayalam novel Nireeswaran was released in May this year.
